Diabetes
Diabetes can reduce sensation and circulation in the feet, which increases the risk of injury and can delay healing. Because of this, even small issues such as corns, callus, ingrown nails, or minor cuts can become more serious if not managed properly. Many injuries may also go unnoticed due to reduced feeling in the feet.
At Podiatry Clinic Dublin, diabetic foot care is provided by our podiatrist/chiropodist in Dublin or Athlone as part of a comprehensive podiatry consultation. During this appointment, a full diabetic foot assessment is carried out where appropriate.
This Includes Checking
- Circulation and blood flow
- Sensation and nerve function
- Skin integrity and pressure areas
- Nail health and general foot condition
In addition to assessment, routine treatment can also be provided during the same visit. This may include nail cutting, corn and callus removal, and management of minor skin issues. You will also receive clear, practical advice on how to care for your feet at home and reduce the risk of complications.
Regular podiatry visits are strongly recommended for people with diabetes, with many guidelines suggesting at least annual reviews or more frequent checks depending on individual risk factors. Ongoing care helps detect problems early, prevent serious complications, and support long-term foot health within a professional podiatry clinical setting.
