Morton’s Neuroma
Morton’s neuroma is a common condition that causes pain in the ball of the foot, often described as sharp, burning, or as if you are standing on a small pebble. It may also cause tingling, numbness, or pins and needles in the toes. The condition occurs when a nerve in the forefoot becomes irritated or compressed, often due to footwear choices or the way you walk. Symptoms may start intermittently but can gradually worsen over time, making walking or wearing certain shoes uncomfortable.
At Podiatry Clinic Dublin, our podiatrist/chiropodist in Dublin or Athlone begins with a detailed biomechanical foot and ankle assessment to understand how your feet and lower limbs are functioning and whether excess pressure is being placed on the nerve. This includes evaluating movement patterns and pressure distribution through the forefoot.
Treatment May Include
- Footwear advice to reduce pressure on the forefoot
- Custom orthotics to offload the affected area
- Targeted strengthening and mobility exercises
The goal is to reduce nerve irritation, improve foot function, and prevent symptoms from progressing. Each plan is fully individualised, and your podiatrist will monitor your progress and adjust treatment as needed. By addressing the underlying cause as well as the symptoms, we aim to provide long-term relief and improved comfort.
